Everyone starts the New Year with a resolution or two. Then those resolutions begin to fade about 20 – 30 days into the year. You see the gyms packed at the beginning of the year and by February the gym population is back to normal.
This year my resolution is to be transparent about my resolution, by posting on social media. If you follow me on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook you will see the posts there. This will serve as my accountability and tracking my self-progress. My goal is to become my own “after” picture.
Along with the sweaty selfies, I will be striving to post a weekly blog post to document my journey and how I feel about the week looking back and my plans for the week ahead. This is the first of those posts.
Looking Back: Week 1
It’s been a long time since I’ve consistently worked out and starting off this week, I chose a workout I thought would be a good soft entry. I chose to work with many modifications, just so as to not overdo it, while still pushing hard at the same time. At the end of the workout, I felt winded, but good. Glad I had done it.
The next morning as I got out of bed, I realized the optimistic naiveté that I had. My legs were sore, my abs were sore. I knew this was going to be a rough rest of the week.
I pushed through my next few workouts, despite the pain I feeling needing the recovery from the first workout and compounding it by doing more work. One thing I noticed, not withstanding the muscle recovery pain, was that when it was time to go to bed, I wasn’t as tired as I had been. Most nights, and mornings, I was ready to go to bed and had a hard time keeping my eyes open, but in only a few days time, I’m starting to notice a difference in my energy level.
Looking Ahead: Week 2
This week is going be the first full week of workouts and back to normal schedule. So the big challenge to overcome is prioritizing my workouts. I’m not a morning person, by any stretch of the imagination, so even considering getting out of bed early to do something like working out is off the table … for the moment. My plan is to find time in the evening to make sure I get this done. This will mean changing a few things, but I think doing this will be worth it in the end, even if it is a challenge at the beginning.
I’ve been going through 21 Day Fix on Beachbody on Demand and started January 1st with the Full Body Cardio Fix. In order to make it easy to keep with the calendar, I will be reseting to the beginning of the weekly calendar on Monday.
Thanks for coming along with me on this fitness journey!
